Myanmar: Government, armed groups join hands to prevent clashes
The Myanmar government and eight ethnic armed groups have agreed to seek ways to prevent further clashes, according to a statement of the Joint Cease-fire Monitoring Committee (JCMC) released on February 25.
The statement came after three days of talks in Yangon, discussing further steps for the Nationwide Ceasefire Accord (NCA).
The government and the eight ethnic armed groups signed the NCA on October 15, 2015, in a bid to end several decades of civil conflict in the country.
The Government and the ethnic armed groups established the JCMC and the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) to oversee the peace process.

The JCMC includes 10 representatives from the government and the eight ethnic armed groups, together with six civil representatives. It is responsible for supervising the NCA.
Meanwhile, the UPDJC with 16 representatives from the government and ethnic armed groups and other political parties is responsible for drafting a framework for political dialogues.
Another seven ethnic armed groups have not signed the NCA.
