Malaysia: Rally supports government
Thousands of people participated in a red shirt rally in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur on September 16 to show their support for the country’s government.
According to the Bernama News Agency, the rally is known as the United People’s Gathering spearheaded by the National Silat Federation (Pesaka) with the support of about 250 non-governmental organisations.
Those involved in the rally, who travelled from various states, held up banners and placards featuring slogans professing support for the government and the necessity of maintaining peace and solidarity as well as rejection of the Bersih 4 rally and political extremism and deception caused by social communication.
The rally was scheduled to end at 19:00 (Malaysia time) on the same day.
On August 29-30, the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections organised the Bersih 4 rally to demand Prime Minister Najib Razak resign.
