Indonesia launches anti-terrorism mobile application

The Indonesian Police launched a mobile application on January 27 to encourage people to report suspected terrorism-linked activities in their neighbourhood.

The application, called “Stop Terrorism”, allows information to be directly transmitted to the police’s information centre.

The application enables people to directly report terror activities or the suspected presence of terrorists in their neighbourhood, said application developer Adjie Pratama said.

Other features include emergency phone numbers, direct link to social media such as Twitter, discussion forum between users and authorised state agencies for terrorism issues.

It can be freely downloaded to smartphones from Google Playstore and Amazon Store.

Users are obliged to fill each report form with their ID number, driving licence number and cellphone number.

Indonesia witnessed a series of terror attacks in opened public area in daytime on January 14, claiming eight lives, including five terrorists, and injuring 26 others.

In 2002, explosions by terrorists killed 202 foreigners and locals in the tourist resort of Bali. A series of bombings targeting “Western objects” in Jakarta, such as the Australian Embassy, JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in 2003, 2004 and 2009, respectively, claimed the lives of dozens of foreigners and locals.
