Unfortunately, the 500 trademarks recognised as “high-quality Vietnamese goods”, are only a small number in comparison with the millions of other products in the market.
At the moment, imported goods in Vietnam, from high-tech to consumables, exceed the volume of products made by Vietnamese manufacturers. Consumer psychology is considered one of the main reasons for the situation. Many people buy goods just because they are imported from a foreign country, not because of their quality.
The weak production capacity of domestic businesses, outdated technologies, high prices, and improper packaging of domestic products also contribute to consumers’ preference for imported goods.
Many companies focus only on producing goods for export. They do not care much about advertising nor have any outlets in the domestic market.
In order to make the campaign more effective, local authorities, businesses and consumers must closely coordinate efforts to achieve national brand recognition through seminars and exhibitions featuring high-quality Vietnamese products.
The publicity campaign should be revved up to raise people’s awareness of the need to use made-in-Vietnam products. There should be policies to protect consumer rights and consumers should be provided with accurate information on each product’s quality and price.
Businesses, in the meantime, should upgrade their technologies and apply advanced techniques to improve their quality and competitiveness, lower their prices and diversify their products. They should show respect for consumers by offering good products and after-sale service. They should also increase their advertising and have a strategy for exploiting the domestic market.
“Vietnamese use Vietnamese goods” is an important campaign for the country’s growth.
