Extremists proclaim IS branch in southern Philippines

Some terror groups in the Philippines have merged to form a satellite extension of the proclaimed Islamic State (IS) in Mindanao, according to Russia’s TASS News Agency.
The groups also pledged allegiance to IS leader Abu Bakr al-Banghdadi.
The terror groups’ mergence to form an IS branch in the Philippines shows significant changes to the IS’s strategy, the Quan doi Nhan dan newspaper cited a comment of terrorism expert at Australia’s Deakin University .
It poses threats to the Philippines and Australia , according to the expert.
Mindanao is the second largest and southernmost major island in the Philippines.
