ASEAN builds work plan for integration initiative

The second regional workshop on building a post-2015 Initiative for ASEAN Integration Work Plan (IAI) was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on March 30.

Present at the event were the IAI Task Force along with Ambassadors and heads of permanent delegations to ASEAN and representatives from Cambodia , Laos , Myanmar and Vietnam .

The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the function.

The workshop constituted a significant step to prepare for the fundamental contents of the plan, as it offered an opportunity for the involved parties to exchange and discuss priorities, deal with challenges during the implementation process and propose necessary solutions to ensure the plan was a success.

Participants agreed that the IAI Work Plan needs to fundamentally support the ASEAN Community’s key pillars of politics-security, economics, and culture-society.

Vietnamese delegates contributed their ideas to the workshop, and confirmed that the country has actively implemented draft documents on economic policy, finance-trade, education, labour and healthcare.

Earlier, ASEAN partners and dialogue countries were brought together at a forum on March 29, to put forward their fields of priority for the IAI Work Plan.
