Vietnamese Ambassador to US emphasizes Vietnam's role in APEC

Opening the event, Mr Vinh said that Vietnam as host of APEC 2017 has selected the theme “Creating new dynamism, fostering a shared future” to boost growth, investment, trade, integration, and sustainable development in the region. 

Vietnam has worked closely with member economies and the business communities to achieve common goals and positive results.

The country has been hosting nearly 200 meetings at all levels within the APEC framework, focusing on four priorities: promoting sustainable, innovative and inclusive growth; deepening regional economic integration; strengthening micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) competitiveness and innovation in the digital age; and enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture, he said.

Vinh noted that this is an important premise for the success of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in November and for future direction of APEC and the region.

He said welcomes the forthcoming Vietnam visit by US President Donald Trump and his presence at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, with a belief that his visit will push up Vietnam – US comprehensive partnership as well as regional cooperation for peace, development and prosperity.

On the occasion, the US-Asia Institute presented an insignia to Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh for his contributions to the US – ASEAN relations.
