Vietnam’s national football team moved up 7 places to the 116th position in the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) rankings this month, announced the federation on February 14.

With 269 points, the national squad keeps its second position in the Southeast Asian region after Thailand with 348 points. Indonesia ranks third in the region with 219 points.

Meanwhile, two Vietnamese clubs are to compete in the AFC Champion League 2008, an annual international inter-club football competition between the champions and cup winners of top Asian leagues and is run by the Asian Football Federation.

The national football league said on February 14 that Becamex Binh Duong Football Club is placed in Group E of the tournament with Adelaide United from Australia, Changchun Yatai from China and Pohang Steelers from the Republic of Korea.

Meanwhile, Phu My Fertilizer Nam Dinh club is in Group F with Beijing Guona from China, Kashima Antlers from Japan and Krung Thai Bank from Thailand.

The two clubs are scheduled to compete in China on March 12.
