Cuban leader Fidel Castro and President Raul Castro on August 25 received Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who was visiting Havana.

During five-hour talks, leader Fidel and President Chavez exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, especially the threat of a nuclear war in the world.

Mr Chavez appreciated Mr Fidel’s role in raising public awareness of the far-reaching consequences of the war, helping humankind to nip it in the bud.

He said he was happy that Fidel has completely recovered from his illness.

Meanwhile, Presidents Raul and Chavez noted with satisfaction the excellent political and economic ties between the two countries.

Venezuela is one of Cuba’s trading partners. Two-way trade increased from US$200 million in 2005 to US$3 billion last year.
