The UN Security Council on December 2 adopted a resolution which extended the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) for another three months.
The 15-member Security Council unanimously voted to adopt the resolution, drafted by the United Kingdom and the United States extend UNSMIL until March 16, 2012.
The council said the mandate of UNSMIL "shall in addition include, in coordination and consultation with the transitional government of Libya, assisting and supporting Libyan national efforts to address the threats of proliferation of all arms and related material of all types, in particular man-portable surface to air missiles."
The newly created UN mission was set up in September to help restore public security and initiate economic recovery in the North African country for an initial 3 months.Xinhuanet/VOV
