In preparation for the National Tourism Year, the province has participated in international tourism fairs in Thailand, China, Japan, and Indonesia, and has offered special tourism products such as craft village tourism and MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition) tourism.

The host of the 2012 National Tourism Year has also built an international convention centre in Hue City and developed the shopping and cuisine streets of Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Pham Ngu Lao, Chu Van An, and Vo Thi Sau. In order to improve its competitive edge and attract foreign and domestic visitors, it has built complex tourism centres and developed different kinds of tourism with tours to lagoons, gardens, traditional markets, and ancient villages.

In 2012, there will be 20 major cultural events organized in the central province, which are expected to draw a large number of tourists.

At present, there are 48 tourism projects in Thua Thien Hue with a total registered capital of nearly VND 50,000 billion (US$2.4 billion). The province has 500 hotels and guest houses with 9,800 rooms.
