Foreign arrivals record massive surge over nine months

VOV.VN - The number of international tourists visiting Vietnam during the first nine months of the year increased 16.4 times compared to the same period from 2021, reaching 1.87 million, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Despite this huge increase, the nine-month number of arrivals is still short of the pre-pandemic figure in 2019.

Visitors arriving by air stood at approximately 1.7 million, accounting for 88.6% of the total and 22 times that compared to the same period from last year.

In contrast, the number of travelers via road routes saw a 5.5 fold increase to 212,500, making up 11.3% of the total.

Statistics highlight that the revenue from accommodation and catering services was roughly VND431 trillion in the first nine months of the year, surging by 54.7% year on year.

Meanwhile, the travel service revenue in the reviewed period was more than VND18 trillion, an increase of 3.9 times against the same period from 2021 thanks to the strong recovery of tourism activities.

September alone witnessed Vietnam welcome 431,900 foreign arrivals, a decline of 11.2% compared to August, but 45.4 times higher than that of the corresponding period last year.

Vietnam has set the goal of welcoming five million international tourists this year. In the context of sharp competition in the global tourism market in the post-pandemic period, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has developed a long-term strategy, with a primary focus on diversifying and improving service quality and increasing the competitiveness of the tourism industry in each locality, as well as in the whole country in general.
