Cam Ranh strained by rising tide of Chinese passengers
VOV.VN - A lot of people are traveling through Cam Ranh International Airport – more than ever before – and it is beginning to morph into something it was not designed to handle and was never intended to become.
In the past few months the airport has welcomed more than 1.8 million passengers, well beyond its designed capacity of 1.5 million passengers per year. |
It’s all due to a dramatic increase in the number of Chinese passengers traveling to Khanh Hoa Province, said airport officials. |
It has put the squeeze on baggage handling, parking, security and simply managing passenger flow, said the officials. |
The officials said they have revised the estimated airport traffic for the year up to four million. |
The airport’s predicament reflects a looming problem in Vietnam aviation. |
Significantly more investment is needed in airport expansion to alleviate congested airports in order for them to be able to meet demand by 2020. |
