Rare Tu Linh vases sell for record amount at auction

VOV.VN - An exquisite Tu Linh set of vases, smashed auction house records when it sold for a staggering US$300,000 on May 28 to Do Anh Dung, the president of Tan Hoang Minh Group.

The bidding initially began at US$40,000 with the price steadily rising until it soared to US$268,500 and then took one final jump to the bid of Mr Dung.

However, Mr Dung got a bad case of buyer’s remorse and backed out of the deal, forfeiting his US$2,240 deposit.

The sale now reverts to Do Quy Hai, president of Hai Phat, the second highest successful bidder at US$268,500.

The set of vases feature four sacred animals of Vietnamese culture. They were made by Pham An Dao, a disabled artisan living in the Bat Trang ceramic village, who says it took him one year to complete.
