The antigovernment "red-shirt" group has agreed to peacefully hold mass gathering in Bangkok on Sunday, a police commander said Saturday.

The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), also known as "red-shirt" movement, plans to hold rally at the Democracy Monument and Ratchaprasong intersection on 10th and 19th of every month in order to commemorate those members who died during the bloody protests in Bangkok downtown last year.

Pol Maj Gen Wichai Sangprapai, commander of metropolitan police Division 1, said the request on peaceful rally by police was accepted by Thaida Tavornsreth, acting chairman of the "red-shirts" after their talks on Saturday afternoon.

He said the "red-shirt" leader agreed that the group leaders should control their members not to demonstrate improper actions against high institution and the rally should disperse by scheduled time to avoid disturbance instigated by the third party.

According to Pol Maj Gen Wichai, two companies of police will be deployed around the Democracy Monument and seven companies at Ratchaprasong intersection to secure order and safety. It is expected that about 60,000 "red-shirt" members will turn out on Sunday.

From March 12 to May 19, "red-shirt" movement, allied with opposition party and ousted ex-PM Thaksin, had staged a prolonged rally at Democracy Monument and central business district of Ratchaprasong intersection to demand the government to dissolve the parliament.

As the government decided to forcefully disperse the protest on April 10 and May 19, some 91 people were killed and nearly 2,000 injured in the clashes between the troops and demonstrators.
