VND800 million bonus for women’s football team after Olympic qualifier victory

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese women’s football team has received a bonus of VND800 million from the Vietnam Football Federation after winning all three matches during the second qualifying round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which was held in Uzbekistan.

The women’s national team successfully beat Jordan 2-0 in their final Group B match of the second qualifying round for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics’ in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on April 9.

Thanks to the victory, Vietnam finished top of Group B with nine points and earned a ticket to compete in the third round of qualifiers.

Previously, the national team defeated Hong Kong 2-1 and Uzbekistan 2-1, putting the team in a comfortable position ahead of the final game.

Vietnam finished as one of the top eight teams in Asia who have made it through to the third qualifying round for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics alongside Australia, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea, China, Thailand, Myanmar, and Chinese Taipei.

The third round, which is set to take place early next year, will see the eight teams play in a round-robin format of two groups. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the final round of Asian qualifiers.

The two winners from the final round of qualifying will join Japan as the AFC representatives at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
