VOV.VN - The Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) announced on July 8 that it plans to continue delaying V.League 1 matches for the 2021-2022 season due to complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic locally.
Previously, all seven matches in the 13th round of the V.League 1 season had been scheduled to resume on July 31.
The postponement is to ensure the safety of all local footballers amid the nation’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, said the VPF adding it has yet to identify a suitable time for the domestic league to resume.
Vietnam is battling the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic following the resurgence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in late April. The virus has so far spread to 55 out of all 63 cities and provinces nationwide, and more than 21,000 positive cases have been confirmed.
In addition, Ho Chi Minh City, the busiest and most populous in Vietnam, has imposed a two-week social distancing order with tighter restrictions as of July 9.
The latest postponement marks the third time that the V.League 1 season has been delayed due to COVID-19 fears this year.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) FC are currently top of the V.League 1 with 29 points after 12 rounds, three points above second-placed and defending champions Viettel FC.
