Vietnam’s U17 women draw with Japanese club away from home
VOV.VN - The Vietnam U17 women's team played out an action-packed 6-6 draw against Japan’s U18 Shonan during their training camp in Japan, in preparation for the 2027 AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers.
Divided into three periods on the morning of September 12, the training match gave head coach Masahiko Okiyama and his staff a vital opportunity to test combinations, evaluate formations, and give playing time across the squad. Shonan initially jumped to a 2-0 lead in the opening period. However, the Vietnamese side quickly regrouped to score three unanswered goals through Truong Khanh Chi, Mai Ngoc Anh, and Do Thi Ha Vi, before the hosts leveled the score at 3-3.
Both teams maintained an open pace in the second period, where Le Thi Bao Tram added another goal for Vietnam to cap a closely contested period ending 4-5 in favor of Shonan. Throughout the first two periods, the coaching staff made only two positional changes to manage player stamina.
Fielding an entirely fresh lineup in the final period, Vietnam fell behind once more before showing resilience to lock the score at 6-6, with Nguyen Le Khanh Dan and Nguyen Quynh Lam finding the target. The high-scoring friendly served as a valuable test for the young squad to gain international experience and evaluate tactical options.
Coach Masahiko Okiyama’s squad will next face Seisa High School on September 16, the Shonan club's senior team on September 19, and the Shonan U15 side on September 20.
Upon concluding their overseas stint, the team will return home to finalize preparations for the 2027 AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers. Vietnam hosts Group D alongside Kyrgyzstan, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Palestine, with matches slated from October 5 to 11 at Ba Ria Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.
