Vietnam’s U16 women team finish fifth at UEFA friendship tournament
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s U16 national women’s football team defeated Wales U16s on penalties in their final match of the eight-team UEFA friendship tournament which concluded in Turkey on April 18, ranking fifth overall.
The Vietnamese girls opened the scoring before Wales earned an equalizer in the second half. The 1-1 draw sent both sides to a penalty shootout which ended 4-3 in favour of Vietnam.
Vietnam earlier trounced Botswana 5-0 in their first match. The team led by Japanese coach Akira Ijiri then lost 8-0 to the United States and 3-1 to hosts Turkey.
The US ultimately took the trophy after beating Paraguay in the final match.
The April 9-19 tournament attracted the participation of eight teams divided into two groups. Vietnam were in Group A alongside the US, Botswana, and hosts Turkey. Group B included Uganda, China, Wales, and Paraguay.
