Vietnam’s football team top Southeast Asia FIFA rankings

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s men’s national football team have held on to the No. 1 spot in the Southeast Asia region, according to the latest International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA)’s ranking released on March 15.

The national team are now No. 113 in the world and lead the regional rankings with 293 points, followed by the Philippines at No. 122, Thailand, No. 129, Myanmar, No. 142, Indonesia, No. 162, and Singapore at No. 171.

In comparison to February’s rankings, the Vietnamese team has dropped one place, however, they maintain their top position in the Southeast Asian region. In December 2017, the national team surpassed the Philippines to take the lead among Southeast Asian countries and have remained at the top ever since.

The improvement in the international rankings is due to Vietnam’s strong performances in the qualifying round of the Asian Cup 2019. Vietnam drew with Jordan and Afghanistan, and thrashed Cambodia 5-0 at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi.

The world’s top 10 remain unchanged. Germany sits atop the world rankings, followed by Brazil in second and Portugal in third.
