Vietnamese U20 side to compete in AFC U20 Asian Cup’s qualifiers

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese U20 men’s football team departed for Indonesia on September 12 to compete in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U20 Asian Cup’s qualifiers which are scheduled to begin two days later.

Head coach Dinh The Nam named a squad of 23 footballers after undergoing a training camp in Ho Chi Minh City, with defender Chau Phi and striker Ngoc My not making the final list.

During the qualifiers for the AFC U20 Asian Cup, Vietnam have been drawn in Group F alongside Hong Kong (China), Timor Leste, and the hosts Indonesia.

Vietnam are scheduled to play their first match against Hong Kong (China) on September 14. They will face Timor Leste and Indonesia on September 16 and September 18, respectively.

All of Group F’s matches are due to take place at the Gelora Bung Tomo stadium in Surabaya province of Indonesia.

The qualifying round will see a total of 44 teams divided into 10 groups, with the matches being hosted by 10 countries.

The 10 winners and best five runners-up from the group stage will subsequently advance to the final round hosted by Uzbekistan from March 1 to March 18 in 2023. In the event that Uzbekistan are among the best five runners-up, the runner-up with the sixth best record will secure a slot in the finals.
