Vietnamese team to compete in 2026 World Chess Olympiad

VOV.VN - The national team will participate in the 2026 World Chess Olympiad which is scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan from September 15 to 28.

The tournament is organised by the International Chess Federation FIDE every two years. In its 2024 edition, Vietnam ranked 25th in the men's team division, and placed 23rd in the women's team division.

Individually, Le Tuan Minh secured third place with nine out of 11 points to earn a bronze medal at the World Chess Olympiad 2024. This was also the only medal for Vietnam in the competition.

In the 2024 edition, the Indian chess team won the championship title, while the US finished second and Uzbekistan came third in the men's division. The Indian team took the lead in the women’s division.

The Olympiad is one of the world's most prestigious chess tournaments. Players compete in standard chess following the FIDE regulations.
