Vietnamese sports delegation raises flag at SEA Games 33
VOV.VN - A flag-raising ceremony for the Vietnamese sport delegation and those participating in SEA Games 33 was held at Hua Mark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on the afternoon of December 8.
The ceremony, a key formal event, marked the official presence of national sports teams at the Games. Representatives from 11 Southeast Asian countries attended, with the Vietnamese delegation led by Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam General Department of Sports (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).
The SEA Games 33 flag-raising officially began at 1 p.m., with the Vietnamese national flag hoisted around 2:45 p.m. Each country was represented by 33 members, symbolizing SEA Games 33. Vietnamese athletes and coaches stood attentively, taking in the moment as the national anthem played.
The Vietnam team for SEA Games 33 comprises 1,165 members, including 842 athletes competing in 47 out of 66 sports, across 443 of 573 events.
Head of the Vietnamese sport delegation Nguyen Hong Minh shared that despite challenges, such as key sports undergoing generational transitions, some young athletes lacking international competition experience, and limited overseas training budgets compared with actual needs, the national team is ready and determined to achieve the highest possible results. He also highlighted the increasing competition from regional powerhouses, which adds pressure on performance targets.
