Vietnamese player prodigy ranks among world’s top 3 U15 players
VOV.VN - Young player Dau Khuong Duy continues to firmly hold the third position in the U15 age group of the world chess rankings, according to the June list released by the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
Born in 2011, Duy has yet to celebrate his 15th birthday, and thanks to this, he finished 3rd in the global list’s U15 age group.
In the newly updated FIDE rankings in June, Dau Khuong Duy, with an Elo rating of 2521, ranked 37th in the world’s Top 100 Juniors for players in the U20 age group. Gukesh Dommaraju of India took the lead, followed by Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus of Turkey.
Most recently, Duy won the Bangkok Chess Club Open 2026 on April 19 after nine rounds, marking a major milestone for Vietnam’s rising generation in international chess.
The Vietnamese player has already surpassed the 2500 Elo milestone and secured two of the three Grandmaster norms required for the prestigious GM title. He now needs only one additional GM norm to officially become a Grandmaster.
Should he achieve the milestone before turning 15, Khuong Duy would join an exclusive group of world-renowned chess prodigies, following in the footsteps of Vietnamese chess legend Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, who also became a Grandmaster before his 15th birthday.
