Vietnamese football champ kicks off in Singapore

The annual competition was held on the occasion of worshipping Hung Kings, the legendary founders of Vietnam, which falls on the 10th day of the third lunar month every year.

The event aims to strengthen friendship and closeness among Vietnamese expatriates in Singapore.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tao Thi Thanh Huong said the football champ demonstrates the fine tradition of “drinking water, remembering the source”, promotes patriotism, and helps young generations understand better about the nation’s glorious history.

Head of the Vietnamese community liaison committee Nguyen Thuy Ha said the football competition is part of activities to look towards the homeland, creating a healthy playground for Vietnamese students.

The committee took this opportunity to launch a donation campaign to support naval soldiers who are doing missions in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.

The closing ceremony of the tourney will take place on May 12.
