Vietnam yet to have broadcasting rights to 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris

VOV.VN - Though there are three days left till the opening of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Vietnam has yet to secure the broadcasting rights to the world’s biggest sporting event.

A representative of a TV broadcaster in Vietnam revealed it’s highly likely that Vietnamese supporters will not be able to watch live Paris competitions, and one of the difficulties in holding the broadcasting rights is the price.

At the 2020 Olympics, the price was 10 times higher than the 2016 Olympics, and the price is likely to go higher at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

It’s worth remembering that Vietnam Television announced it had secured the broadcasting rights to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo only two days before the games began. The supporters expect they will have the chance to watch coming competitions at the last minute.

More than 100 countries and territories have held the rights to broadcast the 2024 Summer Olympics. In Southeast Asia, countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines have also owned the broadcasting rights.

The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11 in the French capital, with the participation of nearly 11,000 athletes from 206 countries and territories worldwide.

Vietnam will send 16 athletes to the games competing in cycling, swimming, shooting, badminton, weight-lifting, archery, boxing, rowing, canoeing, Judo, and athletics.
