Vietnam wins gold at Asian Canoe Championships, earns Olympic points

VOV.VN - Vietnam has secured one gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the 2026 Asian Canoe Sprint Championships in China, which also served as a qualification event for the 2028 Olympic Games.

The only gold medal went to paddler Nguyen Hong Thai who finished first in the women’s C1 5000m division.

Duo Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong brought home one silver medal in the women's C2 1,000m double canoeing and Nguyen Hong Thai took another silver medal in the women's C1 500m individual.

Vietnamese team pocketed three bronze medals in the women’s C2 500m, men’s C1 5,000m and K1 200m divisions.

The tournament, held in Hefei, China, from April 24-26 by the International Canoe Federation, provided athletes with qualification points toward the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Prior to the championships, the Vietnamese canoeing team trained in Thailand. Key athletes are now preparing for the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20), scheduled to take place in Japan this September.
