Vietnam trounce Guam 6-0 at U23 Asian Cup qualifiers

VOV.VN - Vietnamese players scored five goals in the second half to stun their Guam visitors 6-0 in their opening game of the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualification on September 6.

At Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho province, the hosts struck massive attacks after the referee’s whistle but Philippe Troussier’s players could not break the defense of their opponents in the first 30 minutes.

Three minutes later, Van Do broke the deadlock, rushing in from his teammate’s cross and scoring from the centre of the penalty box. However, the opening goal could not help Vietnamese players perform better in the remaining time of the first half.

After the break, coach Troussier made some substitutions that proved to be effective. Vietnamese players flexed their muscle and scored five goals in a row, helping the French coach’s team earn their first three points.

Notably, Vietnamese players were awarded two penalty kicks and they did not make any mistake, clinching a 6-0 landslide victory.

Vietnam stay atop Group C after the 6-0 win, leaving behind Yemen that also overwhelmed Singapore 3-0 in their opener.

Vietnam are scheduled to take on Yemen in their second game on September 9.
