Vietnam to host U16 women’s basketball Southeast Asian qualifiers

VOV.VN - The capital city of Hanoi is set to play host to the Southeast Asian region’s qualifying round of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) U16 women’s Asia Cup from May 14 to 18.

U16 teams from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and hosts Vietnam will compete in a one-round robin format. The top two teams will qualify for the final round of the FIBA U16 women’s Asia Cup slated for September this year.

Meanwhile, the U16 men’s Southeast Asian qualifiers is scheduled to take place in the Philippines from May 23 to 30, drawing the participation of teams from Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and hosts the Philippines.

Similarly, the best two teams will advance to the FIBA U16 men’s Asia Cup’s finals in September.

The tournament involving 16 teams in each men and women category has been held biennially since 2009. The top four teams will progress through to the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup.
