Vietnam to face German club Werder Bremen in May friendly
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese women's national football team will play a friendly match against Germany’s Werder Bremen FC on May 16 in Hanoi, as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany.

According to the latest announcement from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the match is expected to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries and offer Vietnamese players a valuable opportunity to sharpen their skills ahead of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers.
The national team will begin training on May 6 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre in Hanoi. Head coach Mai Duc Chung has called up 30 players for a 10-day training camp in preparation for the match against Werder Bremen.
Werder Bremen FC currently compete in the Frauen-Bundesliga, the top tier of women’s football in Germany. Based in Bremen, the club is known for its modern and technical playing style. With a lineup featuring many young talents, they are expected to be a strong opponent for the Vietnamese side.
Looking ahead, Vietnam are in Group E of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, alongside Guam, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the Maldives. The group matches will take place at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho province from June 23 to July 5.
The qualifiers include eight groups in total. The top two teams from each group will progress to the final round, scheduled for March 1–21, 2026. The tournament also serves as the initial stage of Asian qualification for both the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games.
