Vietnam to compete with Asia’s top teams for 2027 Women’s World Cup spot
VOV.VN - The final list of teams for the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup has been confirmed, with Vietnam among the continent’s top sides set to battle for places at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Vietnam defeated Guam 4-0 on July 5 at Viet Tri Stadium in northern Phu Tho province to complete a perfect run in the second qualifying round, winning all three matches, scoring 17 goals, conceding none, and finishing top of their group to secure a spot at the 2026 finals.
According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), results at the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup will serve as the basis for determining Asia’s qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Vietnam will therefore continue its campaign with hopes of securing a place at the global tournament, which will be held in Brazil.
Following the final round of qualifiers, the AFC has now confirmed most of the 2026 Asian Cup lineup. The list includes Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, Australia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Chinese Taipei, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and Uzbekistan. The final spot will go to the winner of Group A in the remaining qualifying group, scheduled from July 7 to 19.
The 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup is set to take place in Australia from March 1 to 21. The top six teams from the tournament will qualify directly for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The seventh- and eighth-placed teams will advance to the intercontinental playoffs.
