Vietnam targets strong results at Asian Finswimming Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnam is targeting strong results at two regional finswimming championships to be held in Malaysia from October 27 to November 1, with a 62-member delegation set to compete in both the senior and age-group events.
The team will take part in the third Southeast Asian Finswimming Championships and the first Southeast Asia Age Group Finswimming Championship. The delegation comprises team officials, experts, coaches and athletes from sports organisations across Vietnam, following the approval of the Sports Authority of Vietnam under a decision issued on October 20.
The third Southeast Asian Finswimming Championships will bring together athletes from across the region, offering Vietnamese competitors an opportunity to assess their abilities, gain international experience and compete for strong results.
Held alongside the senior competition, the first Southeast Asia Age Group Finswimming Championship will provide young athletes with valuable competitive experience and help identify promising talents for the national team.
The events will also allow Vietnam’s coaching staff to assess athletes’ technical and tactical abilities under competitive pressure, identify areas for improvement and evaluate their readiness for future international competitions.
Vietnam hopes to use the championships to strengthen its position in regional finswimming while supporting the development of athletes across different age groups.
Vietnam head into the championships following a strong showing at the 2025 CMAS Southeast Asia Championship Finswimming Indoor, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in November, where the team topped the senior medal table with 31 gold, 22 silver and six bronze medals. Vietnamese athletes also led the standings in the accompanying junior competition, winning 24 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze medals. The results provide a strong benchmark as Vietnam seeks to maintain its regional standing and continue developing younger talent.
