Vietnam takes gold at FIDE World Youth Under-8 Girls Rapid 2026

VOV.VN - Vietnamese chess prodigy Nguyen Duc Huyen My has secured a gold medal in the Rapid Under-8 Girls division at the FIDE World Cadet and Youth Rapid & Blitz Championships 2026 which closed in Serbia on April 21.

The Ho Chi Minh City-born player won nine matches and drew two, finishing with 10 points, one point ahead of runner-up Zhakisheva Venera of Kazakhstan. She also took a bronze medal in the Under-8 Girls Blitz category.

Her teammate Tong Thai Hoang An brought home a silver medal in the Rapid Under-14 Girls.

The tournament began on April 14, attracting around 450 participants from 40 countries worldwide who competed across six age groups – U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18 – in Open and Girls’ categories. Vietnam sent seven players to the championships.
