Vietnam suffer penalty loss to Kyrgyzstan at Doha Cup 2023
VOV.VN - Vietnam lost 5-4 on penalties to Kyrgyzstan in the final match of the Doha Cup 2023 in Qatar, with the fixture being played on the early morning of March 29.
Vietnam started the game with a high pressing strategy to begin the match. However, the team failed to make a decisive breakthrough in the first half.
The second half finished 0-0, meaning a penalty shoot-out was needed to determine the winner. The loss in the penalty shootout means that the Vietnamese team leave the friendly tournament without scoring a single goal.
After suffering three defeats at the tournament, the U23 team finished bottom of the standings.
Despite the loss, head coach Troussier still highly appreciated the entire team’s efforts, stating that his students were on the right track.
He added that the team will return home to prepare well for the upcoming SEA Games 32, which is scheduled to take place in Cambodia in May.
