Vietnam seeded in Pot 2 of 2023 AFC Asian Cup

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national football team have been seeded in Pot 2 of the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup.

This comes following qualification being decided for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, with the tournament set to feature a total of 24 football teams from throughout the region.

Vietnam were among the first 13 teams to make it through the second qualifying round of the Asian region for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

As a result of past performances, the nation has been seeded in Pot 2 alongside the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iraq, Oman, China, and Syria.

Elsewhere, three Southeast Asian representatives, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, have been seeded in Pot 4 together with India, Tajikistan, and Hong Kong (China).

With these seed groups, there is a chance that the national team will face Thailand in the group stage of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

Pot 1 features several strong teams such as Iran, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, and Palestine make up Pot 3.

Recently, China decided to withdraw from hosting the tournament due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The AFC have yet to announce the time of the draw due to the need to find a new host country.
