Vietnam secures two swimming slots for 2026 Youth Olympics
VOV.VN - Vietnam has secured two swimming quota places for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, according to the International Swimming Federation (FINA).
The slots are allocated for the women’s 100m freestyle and the men’s 200m butterfly. The athletes representing Vietnam will undergo specialised training to prepare for the competition.
The Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association (VASA) has yet to confirm the information.
A total of 328 swimming places will be awarded at the Games, evenly split between men and women, with 15 individual events for each. No relay events will be held.
All events are individual competitions, including the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, and 200m individual medley.
At the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina, Vietnam won one gold medal thanks to Nguyen Huy Hoang, who triumphed in the men’s 800m freestyle. He has since established himself as one of the country’s leading swimmers on the international stage.
The 2026 Youth Olympic Games will take place in Dakar, Senegal, from October 31 to November 13. The games will feature 153 events across 25 sports. Currently, Vietnamese sports are actively seeking official qualification spots for the games through international competitions that serve as qualifying rounds for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
