Vietnam play Syria in closed-door friendly ahead of AFC U23 Asian Cup finals
VOV.VN - Vietnam will take on Syria in a closed-door friendly at 7:00 p.m. (Vietnam time) on December 30 – a match seen as a crucial final test for head coach Kim Sang-sik’s squad ahead of the coming AFC U23 Asian Cup finals.
The match, scheduled for 3:00 p.m. local time in Qatar, will be played without media coverage or spectators following an agreement between the two teams for technical reasons.
Head coach Kim Sang-sik is expected to use the game to make final assessments of his squad and tactical options, while also giving all players a chance to play. Following the match, Kim will finalise the player registration list for the continental tournament, with one player set to miss out.
Vietnamese players on December 29 took part in their third training camp in Qatar. After the first two days of strengthening physical fitness, the coaching board adjusted the intensity of the training, focusing on ball control, attacking organisation, and goaling skills.
Players have shown strong morale and high levels of concentration, according to team officials. The friendly is viewed as an important quality test before Vietnam travel on to Saudi Arabia for the AFC U23 Asian Cup finals, where they will open their campaign against Jordan on January 6.
All the player are in good form and ready for the Asian tournament which they will face powerhouses such as Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, and the host Saudi Arabia, striker Bui Vi Hao shared.
Vietnam have been drawn in Group A alongside Jordan, Kyrgyzstan and hosts Saudi Arabia. Alongside the opening game on January 6, they will face Kyrgyzstan three days later before wrapping up the group stage against hosts Saudi Arabia on January 12.
The top two teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals on January 16 and 17, with the semi-finals scheduled for January 20 and the final on January 24.
