Vietnam lose 1-2 to Australia in CFA Youth Friendly Tournament for U16s

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s U16 national football team on May 28 suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Australia in their opening match of the CFA International Youth Football Tournament that is getting underway in Inner Mongolia, China.

Despite coming under heavy pressure early in the match, the Vietnamese side held firm in defence and struck first, with Le Trong Dai Nhan scoring during first-half injury time to give Vietnam a surprise lead going into the break.

Australia regrouped in the second half and began to dominate possession, launching coordinated attacks that eventually paid off. The Aussies turned the game around with two quick goals in the final quarter. Johnny Pavlovic netted the equaliser in the 75th minute, followed just two minutes later by a decisive strike from Jordan Owusu to seal the comeback.

Vietnam are scheduled to take on hosts China on May 30, followed by a match against Saudi Arabia on June 1.

The tournament, organised by the Chinese Football Association (CFA), provides Vietnam's young players a valuable opportunity to gain international experience in preparation for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers set for October.
