Vietnam finishes third at ASEAN Para Games 12

VOV.VN - Vietnam has won 66 gold, 58 silver and 77 bronze medals at the 12th ASEAN Para Games held in Cambodia, ranking third in the medal tally.

This is the best result the Vietnamese sport delegation has obtained at an ASEAN Para Games when it was held outside its territory.

Before the event was held, Vietnam had set a target of winning between 50 and 55 gold medals and finishing in the top 4.

The 66 gold medals were taken by athletes in swimming, track-and-field, weightlifting and chess. Notably, swimmers and track-and-field athletes brought home 28 and 20 gold medals respectively.

The best Vietnamese athlete is Danh Hoa who bagged six gold medals in swimming. His teammate Trinh Thi Bich Nhu also took five gold medals and broke three regional records in swimming.

Meanwhile, track-and-field veteran Trinh Cong Luan, 51, secured two gold and a bronze in javelin.

The ASEAN Para Games 12 was held in Cambodia from June 3-9. Indonesia topped the medal tally with 159 gold medals, followed by Thailand in second position with 126 gold medals.
