Vietnam finishes fifth overall at World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnam has ranked fifth overall at the Chuncheon 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in the Republic of Korea, with two gold, one silver and four bronze medals.
Two gold medals went to the trio Lien Thi Tuyet Mai, Chau Tuyet Van and Nguyen Thi Le Kim in the Team Female Under 50 category, and Nguyen Thi Le Kim and Nguyen Thien Phung in the Mixed Doubles Under 50 category.
Chau Tuyet Van was once again among Vietnam’s standout performers on the world stage, taking two medals. After helping her teammates win gold in Team Female Under 50, she added silver in Individual Female Under 40. Tuyet Van advanced to the final after defeating opponents from Greece, Portugal, Germany and the US, before taking silver following a defeat by Chang Ting-Jung of Chinese Taipei.
Vietnam also pocketed four bronze medals including one bronze for the Junior Team Female secured by Le Hoang Yen, Vo Thi Huynh Nhu, and Huynh Thi Hoang Quyen on the final competition day.
Alongside its experienced athletes, Vietnam is also looking towards ASIAD 20 in Japan with athletes such as Nguyen Xuan Thanh and Chau Ngoc Tuyet Sang. The two athletes competed at the world championships but did not win medals.
The results in Chuncheon therefore provided both a strong showing for Vietnam at a world-level event and an opportunity for the coaching staff to assess the squad ahead of ASIAD 20.
In the final standings, hosts Republic of Korea topped the medal table with 20 gold, four silver and five bronze medals, followed by Thailand with three gold, three silver and three bronze, while the US finished third with two gold, five silver and 10 bronze.
The 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships was organised from September 16 to 20 in Chuncheon, marking one of the most prominent events on the World Taekwondo schedule. The tournament drew a record 1,411 athletes from 83 countries worldwide, competing across 42 medal events.
