Vietnam finish second at SEA V.League 2023
VOV.VN - Vietnam claimed the runner-up spot in the second leg of the SEA V.League 2023, part of the Southeast Asian Volleyball League, after clinching a 3-2 win over the Philippines on July 30.
Playing in the Philippines, Vietnamese men got off to a good start with three consecutive points before showing a lack of concentration, letting their hosts trounce 25-22 in the first set.
Players such as Tu Thanh Thuan and Truong The Khai performed impressively and continuously scored points for their team, overwhelming their hosts 25-18 and 25-20 in the next two sets.
The fourth set saw Filipino players flex their muscle and beat their Vietnamese visitors 26-24 in their spectacular comeback, earning an equalizer.
In the crucial fifth set, the Vietnamese players maintained their utmost focus and caution in every attack, and the hosts could not stop the Vietnamese sweep as the set ended 15-7.
The 3-2 victory earned Vietnam the runner-up title in the second leg of the SEA V.League 2023. They were previously placed in third position in the first leg of the tournament.
The Southeast Asian Volleyball League, also known as SEA V.League (formerly known as ASEAN Grand Prix), is a series of international volleyball tournaments held throughout Southeast Asia featuring teams from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
The tournament was first held in 2019, with Thailand crowned champions in 2019 and 2022, and Indonesia winning the title in 2023.
Vietnam came fourth in 2019 and finished as runners-up in both the 2022 and 2023 versions.
