Vietnamese players make AFF’s watchlist for ASEAN U-23 Mandiri Cup
VOV.VN - Two Vietnamese footballers, Nguyen Van Truong and Nguyen Thai Son, have been highlighted as standout talents ahead of the ASEAN U-23 Mandiri Cup™ 2025, according to the official website of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF).

The AFF noted that Hanoi FC midfielder Nguyen Van Truong was part of Vietnam’s title-winning squad at the ASEAN U-23 Championship two years ago. Although he played mainly as a substitute at that tournament, the 21-year-old is expected to take on a more prominent role this time.
“With a large and imposing frame, he is strong in the air and retains possession well for his team,” the site commented.

Meanwhile, defensive midfielder Nguyen Thai Son is also tipped to play a crucial part in coach Kim Sang-sik’s squad. Set to turn 22 just days before the tournament kicks off, Thai Son brings both quality and experience.
Named Vietnam’s Young Player of the Year in 2023, he featured in every match for the national team at the AFC Asian Cup 2023 and the AFC U-23 Asian Cup 2024. At club level, he was a regular starter for Dong A Thanh Hoa FC during their campaign at the inaugural ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™.
Other notable names on the AFF’s list of players to watch include Indonesian centre-back Muhammad Ferarri and forward Rafael Struick, Thai attacking midfielder Seksan Ratree, as well as Malaysian centre-back Ubaidallah Shamsul and striker Haqimi Aziz.
