Two overseas Vietnamese players obtain citizenship ahead of potential Vietnam call
VOV.VN - There was good news for Vietnamese football fans and head coach Kim Sang-sik as overseas Vietnamese players Patrik Le Giang and Khoa Ngo officially obtained Vietnamese citizenship.
The two players of Cong An Ho Chi Minh City FC received their citizenship decisions at the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Justice on the morning of May 13.
Goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang completed his citizenship process after more than three years playing in the V.League, making the 1992-born player eligible to represent Vietnam in the near future.
The overseas Vietnamese goalkeeper born in Slovakia had earlier been confirmed by Cong An Ho Chi Minh City FC as having obtained Vietnamese citizenship under Decision No. 91, signed by the State President on January 28, 2026. His full Vietnamese name is Le Giang Patrik. He was born in Slovakia on September 8, 1992.
Patrik Le Giang had previously been named in Vietnam’s preliminary squad for the March FIFA Days window by Kim Sang-sik. However, paperwork issues delayed the completion of his citizenship procedures until now.
Meanwhile, overseas Vietnamese midfielder Khoa Ngo also received support from Cong An Ho Chi Minh City FC in applying for Vietnamese citizenship after returning to Vietnam to play. The 20-year-old, born in Australia, has expressed his desire to represent Vietnam, saying one of the reasons he returned to compete in Vietnam was to fulfill that dream.
