VOV.VN - Local player Nguyen Thuy Linh progressed to the quarter-final round of YONEX Belgian International 2022 after defeating Thai rival Thamonwan Nithiittikrai 21-9 and 21-15 on September 15 in Belgium.
Linh is currently ranked 54th in the world, a total of 243 places higher than the Thai player.
The Vietnamese athlete dominated the game from the start and took only 31 minutes to gain a 2-0 victory over her Thai rival.
Moving forward, the Phu Tho native will face Lianne Tan from host nation Thailand in the quarter-final stage on the evening of September 16.
Lianne Tan is placed 36th in the world’s rankings and seeded No. 1 in the Belgian tournament.
YONEX Belgian International 2022 was first held in 1958. The total prize money on offer is up to US$25,000. Thuy Linh is the only Vietnamese representative and seeded No. 5 in the women’s singles of the tournament which will run until September 17.
