Thao Nguyen to represent Vietnam at 2025 Women’s Chess World Cup

VOV.VN - Grandmaster Pham Le Thao Nguyen will be Vietnam’s sole representative at the 2025 Women’s Chess World Cup, scheduled to take place from July 5 to 29 in Georgia.

Organised under the World Chess Federation (FIDE), the tournament will bring together 107 top players competing in the standard chess format.

Nguyen officially secured her place following a strong performance at the 2024 Chess Olympiad. She is seeded No. 50, while Chinese grandmaster Lei Tingjie enters the tournament as the top seed.

In the first round, Nguyen will face Georgia’s Mgeladze Kesaria. A win would see her advance to face Divya Deshmukh of India in the next round.

The Chess World Cup includes both men’s and women’s competitions. In the men’s bracket, Vietnam will be represented by Grandmasters Le Quang Liem and Le Tuan Minh.
