Thai Nguyen to stage Vietnam’s first Asian Muay Championship
VOV.VN - Vietnam will host the Asian Muay Championship for the first time, with the 2025 edition set to take place in northern Thai Nguyen province from June 20 to 26.

The announcement was made at a press conference on June 16 in Thai Nguyen, where the organizing board introduced the tournament to local and international media.
The championship is expected to attract nearly 400 coaches, athletes, officials, and referees from 25 countries and territories. Competitions will span 28 combat weight classes and eight technical performance events.
Vietnam’s delegation will include 50 athletes, six of whom hail from the host province.
Tu Thi Le Na, a representative from the Muaythai Department under the Sports Authority of Vietnam, said hosting the event is a significant milestone for Vietnamese Muay, helping to elevate its international profile. She expressed confidence in Vietnam’s potential to make a strong impression at the tournament.
Nguyen Van Ngoc, director of Thai Nguyen’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized the province’s readiness, noting that all preparations, including facilities, logistics, security, and healthcare, have been brought in line with international standards.
The event is also seen as an opportunity for Thai Nguyen to showcase itself as a dynamic province with a rich cultural identity and growing strengths in education, tourism, sports, and technology.
After the tournament, the Vietnamese Muay team will compete at the World Games in Chengdu (August), the World Youth Championship in the UAE (September), and the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand (December).
