Striker Tien Linh tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of WC qualifying clash

VOV.VN - Key forward for the Vietnamese men’s national football team Nguyen Tien Linh is the latest COVID-19 case in the sports community after testing positive for the virus.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) confirmed that the striker returned a positive test result and is therefore unable to join the senior team’s gathering on January 13.

The Becamex Binh Duong FC footballer has therefore been asked to follow the instructions by local health agencies regarding isolation in order to ensure the safety of the community.

Earlier, midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc and striker Nguyen Van Toan had also tested positive in their hometowns after returning from the AFF Cup 2020.

The national team, who have all been given their third vaccination shots, gathered for training in Hanoi on January 13 ahead of upcoming qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Vietnam are scheduled to play Australia on January 27 in Melbourne, and China in Hanoi five days later.

Head coach Park Hang-seo finalised a list of 30 footballers for the gathering and has so far chosen not to add any new players after three of the national team players contracted COVID-19.
