Six local teams to compete for AFC Women's Champions League spot

VOV.VN - Six teams will compete in the 2025 National Women's Football Championship – Thai Son Bac Cup, aiming for a coveted place in the 2026 – 2027 AFC Women’s Champions League, according to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

The 2025 season will feature six teams – Hanoi, PhongPhu Ha Nam, Ho Chi Minh City I, Ho Chi Minh City II, Than Khoang San Vietnam (Coal and Minerals), and Thai Nguyen T&T.

The competition, starting on September 4, will follow a double round-robin format, with home and away legs, hosted in centralised venues. Teams will be ranked from first to sixth based on points earned throughout the season.

Winners will earn the right to represent Vietnam in the 2026-2027 AFC Women’s Champions League.

The national championship serves as a foundation for experts to select outstanding talents for the national women's teams, especially the senior team, said VFF General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu.

Thanks to the tournament, he said, Vietnamese women's football has gradually achieved remarkable results. Most recently, Coach Mai Duc Chung and his senior team secured a spot in the final round of the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup which will be held in Australia.

According to FIFA’s latest Women’s Rankings, Vietnam hold 37th position in the world and sixth in Asia.
