VOV.VN - The Southeast Asian Games Federation announced on July 8 that the SEA Games 31 will be officially delayed until 2022 because of the complicated developments relating to the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the region.
Philstar of the Philippines stated in a recently-published article that due to of the COVID-19 pandemic, the biennial sports event, which had been due to take place from November 21 to December 2, will be rescheduled for next year.
“The Malaysia Olympic council posted the announcement on its Twitter account,” it added.
According to the website, Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino, president of the Philippine Olympic Committee, also confirmed the postponement on July 8.
Moving forward, new dates for the sporting competition meet have yet to be determined.
The SEA Games 31 will feature 40 sports, with 36 already granted approval by the national steering committee for the upcoming SEA Games 31. This includes track and field, water sports, gymnastics, rowing, canoeing/kayak, football, shooting, archery, wrestling, judo, taekwondo, karate, wushu, weightlifting, boxing, kickboxing, badminton, fencing, Sepak takraw, tennis, volleyball, basketball, cycling, billiards & snooker, golf, vovinam, chess, pencak silat, dance sport, and diving, among others.
During the SEA Games 30 in 2019, the nation ranked second overall with 98 gold medals, including a historic gold in the men's football, only behind the Philippines who hosted the competition.
