Saudi Arabia, Vietnam move toward broader sports cooperation

VOV.VN - The Sports Authority of Vietnam and the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Vietnam held a working session in Hanoi on October 27 to discuss opportunities for expanding bilateral sports cooperation.

The meeting involved Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, Director of the Sports Authority of Vietnam, and Thamer Mohammed A. Algosaibi, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Vietnam.

Ambassador Algosaibi expressed expectations to promote sports cooperation based on each side's potential, strengths, and practical needs.

Alongside existing links in football, he suggested expanding partnerships into boxing, kickboxing, cycling, hiking, and water sports.

The ambassador added that enhanced cooperation will strengthen professional expertise while enabling sports organizations, athletes, and clubs from both countries to exchange experience and build joint programs.

Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet noted that sports cooperation between Vietnam and Saudi Arabia holds great growth potential beyond football. He proposed that both sides establish contact points to allow sports management agencies, federations, and associations to directly communicate and formulate specific cooperation plans.

Ambassador Algosaibi acknowledged Vietnam's goodwill and stated he will  work with relevant Saudi sports units to accelerate the implementation of the discussed matters.

In a related development, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Saudi host organizing committee recently announced that the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG 6) has been rescheduled to March 28 -April 8, 2027. The games will cover 18 sports across 25 official disciplines.
